Ham Exams at the FCARC Swapfest

Ham exams will be available at the FCARC Swapfest held at Monarch Gardens in Appleton, November 6, 2016.

Registration begins at 9:00 am and ends at 10:00 am in the lower level. A pictured I.D. is required. Cost of the exam is $15.00 (set by the ARRL VEC) cash or a check made out to "ARRL VEC". If you are taking an exam to upgrade you must provide a copy of your current license. Calculators are permitted but cellphones must be silenced or off and put away.

The 146.76 Repeater is off the air.

The 146.76 repeater was taken off the air after exhibiting symptoms of low rf power out. If need be and its still under warranty it will be returned to Yaesu for repairs. A back up repeater will be put in place in a few days. Please consider using one of the other FCARC repeaters, 145.33 or 443.65, both 100.0 Hz CTCSS. Also available is the 442.175 (100.0 Hz) repeater in Appleton.

FCARC SSTV Net - September 10

The FCARC supports a monthly net to help interested hams learn about & practice Slow Scan TV (SSTV) on 2 meters. You are invited to join. FCARC membership is not necessary. This is a semi-formal, directed net. We meet at 6 pm using both FM voice & SSTV transmissions on 145.330 MHz, Tone 100. All SSTV transmissions are in Martin 2.

I will begin sending a few SSTV pictures prior to the net beginning at 5:45 pm for your enjoyment, and then I'll call for checkins at 6 pm.

The Fond Du Lac County ARES group will be using the 146.760 repeater on August 14 to support Race the Lake. They will be using the repeater from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Corn Roast

The FCARC's Corn Roast will be held at Sunset Park on Kimberly on August 20. The FCARC will provide corn, brats, hamburgers, soda and water. Please bring a dish to pass.

The Corn Roast will start at 11:00 AM.

This year's activities will include:
A Fox Hunt by KC9LWD
HF Station by KB9AIT
50/50 raffle. The FCARC will be giving away a Yaesu FTM-3200.

The next FCARC VE Exam will be September 10, 2016 at Fox Valley Technical College, 1825 N. Bluemound Drive, Appleton, 54912-2277.
The room number is B142 and the closest entrance is door 12 located on the west side of the building. You can view a floor plan of the College at the following website.

2016 EAA Special Event Station Summary

I have compiled a summary of our operations for the W9ZL 2016 EAA Special Event
Station operations at EAA Airventure 2016. In spite of poor radio band conditions due to a solar storm that occurred on July 25 2016 the Event had a successful operation for 2016, logging 612 total contacts. The majority of these contacts (504) where made on the 20-meter radio band (14.260 MHz)again due to band conditions causing poor propagation for the 40-meter band (7.250 MHz).

Patrick Moretti, KA1RB-new ARRL Section Manager for Wisconsin

As of July 1, 2016 Patrick Moretti, KA1RB, of Dousman, will become the new ARRL Section Manager for Wisconsin. He replaces the post being vacated by Gary Sorensen, W9ULK, of Oxford, who has been SM since July 2013. Moretti has been serving as the Wisconsin Official Observer Coordinator, an Official Observer, and a Technical Specialist.
