2018 EAA Special Event Station
The 2018 EAA Special event station was a great success. This was the first year
that W9ZL was on the air for the entire Airventure Fly-in, seven days, up from a
3-day event only a few years ago. We had great participation from both the Fox
cities Amateur Radio Club members and also had a good number of operators that
signed on from other clubs through out the state via the ARRL.
Some quick overview statistics for the 2018 W9ZL EAA Special Event Station
follow:
33 volunteer operators
446 volunteer hours worked
Over 100 visiting licensed radio amateurs in the guest log
700+ contacts made during the event( despite an solar flare on 7/25!).
Also new for the EAA in 2018 the ARRL had it's first ever presence at
Airventure, setting up a booth in Hanger "B" of the fly-in's market area. Kermit
Carlson W9XA reported the ARRL booth as being a huge success with many visiting
radio operators and a lot of interest from the general public in our hobby.
